The Positive Eight

Our philosophy and practical approach is symbolised in the Positive Eight, a dynamic model developed by ArjoHuntleigh to map the route to improved care.

The key to better care is resident mobility. Promoting and maintaining mobility improves residents’ quality of life and reduces strain on staff, thus creating a better working environment.

ArjoHuntleigh can help care facilities put in place all the prerequisites for promoting mobility–sufficient space, proper aids and the correct working techniques – a process that also creates a workplace with embedded ergonomics.

The Positive Eight in action

Sufficient space, the proper mechanical aids and correct working techniques are the optimum conditions to promote mobility (1), which  maintains the capacity of the heart, lungs and blood circulation (2). This reduces the risk of pneumonia, and other common complications (3).
As a result, residents are more active and maintain their quality of life (4). Residents require less assistance, reducing strain on the carer (5). With fewer work-related injuries, carers become more productive and psychological wellbeing improves (6). Job satisfaction rises, so staff turn-over falls and sick leave decreases (7), which enhances the quality of care and reduces both short and longterm costs for the care facility (8).
